Ultimate Dreaming Machine

It was thirty years ago that BMW first introduced the BMW M1 super car to the world. Now, to celebrate it’s thirty year anniversary, BMW thought it would be fun to tease us all with this updated “concept” version of the original Bavarian bombshell. Originally designed by Paul Bracq and later by famed Italian design house Giugiaro, this BMW M1 Hommage takes a clearly aggressive pose, with retro features mixing it up with very modern elements.

From the louvered rear window, to the 80’s style badging on the rear and the conspicuous (for Germans) wheel design, the 80’s are definitely in at BMW’s studios and this latest version if the M1 just might raise enough eyebrows to go into production before the 80s are officially passe.

Monowheel

Designed by Ben Wilson the monowheel looks like IT from one Southpark episode only it’s more comfortable. The cycle was made for the XXIst Century Man exhibition at 21_21 Design Sight in Tokyo. This bike, I mean cycle looks really cool but I doubt it’s comfortable, your arms would go to sleep if you keep them up like that.

Futuristic Movie Theater in China

The AMC Pacific Place Cinema opened on December 9th 2006 in Hong Kong, China. Refurbished by James Law Cybertecture International, Pacific Place Cinema is on the ground floor of the Pacific Place mall in the Queensway district on Hong Kong Island. The space use to be a two auditorium UA Pacific Place Cinema.
The newly designed space houses 6 theaters, featuring a total of 599 seats. Pacific Place is considered “Asia’s most technologically-advanced cinema”, boasting Hong Kong’s best three-way SRD-EX audio system, and incorporating a bunch of never-seen before solutions. For example, the ticketing box office is no longer enclosed in a conventional glass box, but is instead “more akin to modern sculpture or the lobby of a chic boutique hotel, protruding outwards to skilfully incorporate the technology used to issue tickets.” Tickets range from $50HK ($6.42 American) to$75HK ($9.64 American). You can choose your exact seat online when purchasing your ticket.
All of the seats are upholstered with sumptuous French leather, measuring 4 feet wide leaving plenty of leg room to spare. The VIP theatre provides seating for 39 and is rented out for intimate corporate receptions and private parties. The largest theater has 142 seats.

New York goes chasing waterfalls

New York State is home to some impressive waterfalls , New York City, not so much. The city is planning on changing that this summer with the New York City Waterfalls project. It's a big, expensive undertaking: $9 to $10 million dollars to make four waterfalls rise from the East River and New York Harbor. As you can see from the gallery below, right now the project is just a work in progress. The Public Art Fund and City of New York, both sponsors of the Olafur Eliasson-designed installation, plan for the waterfalls to run from late June through October of this year.The City hopes that tourists will flock to see the waterfalls from water taxis. We think that the idea is pretty cool, but we also know that the East River is nowhere near as clean as it looks in the concept pictures. The water will be filtered before it goes through the falls. We just hope that the city filters it well enough that it will be safe to breath in the East River mist that they'll create.

Apparently The 5th Element Is Glass

These glasses have the flute and stem but are missing the stand. That’s because you’re supposed to stick them in the stand when not in use. The sand you ask? Yes, they were designed for hot Swedish summers at the beach.They come in sets of four with each glass representing an element of nature; fire, air, water, and earth. The 5th element? The glasses themselves. Ooh, clever.

Australian Monster Motorbike

Yeeha! Hope one day I got a chance to see this live. They called this the Australian monster motorbike from hell.
It is build by Ray Baumann, he claims that it is much safer riding this monster crushing cars than it was to jump them on a much smaller machine.
The monster weighs 130 tons and standing 10 feet tall and there’s no suspension at all, so don’t fall from the bike, also don’t let the bike fall on you.
The frame comes in upside-down ladder design, with wheels and tires from Caterpillar. And last, the monster is powered by a Detroit Diesel engine mated with a 6-speed Allison automatic transmission.

Absent Nature

Absent Nature is the exhibition of designer Arik Levy at Wright20, New York, Chicago. The exhibition included Fractal clouds and Log series. The fractals clouds are made of thousands of light tubes one of my favorite materials. The tubes were made into one light-emitting textile. And the Log series are made of blackened wood, mirror-polished stainless steel and stainless steel mesh giving a sense of weight and raw power derived from forms of nature.

Universal remote concept reminds us of the all-in-one gadget dream

What if you could control everything in your home with a little handheld gadget? That's what this universal remote by David Chacon got us thinking about, with its roomy screen — a nerve center right in your pocket.Simply called the Universal Remote, the device would be flash capable so it could display anything from channel listings to more elaborate menus. With a touchscreen, the right frequencies and support from outside companies, the remote would allow you to change your television's volume to turning on the oven or dimming the lights — and companies could create custom graphic user interfaces for a product, too.

World's Most Expensive Musical Instrument.

NAC conductor Pinchas Zukerman, counted among the world's leading violinists, recently had the honour of playing the world's most expensive musical instrument.The violin is a 1741 instrument made by Giuseppe Guarneri del Gesu, for which Russian lawyer and businessman Maxim Viktorov paid a reported $3.9 million U.S. in a private sale brokered by Sotheby's last month. The previous most expensive instrument had been a 1708 Stradivari violin sold by Christie's for $3.54 million in 2006.On March 21, Mr. Zukerman played the instrument in a private concert at the Great Kremlin Palace in Moscow. Bruch's Violin Concerto No. 1, which Mr. Zukerman will offer at the NAC on Wednesday and Thursday nights, was among the music he played in Moscow.

Nucleus Motorcycle

In the competitive world of sleek and wind splitting motorcycle design, aero-dynamic drag efficiency takes a back seat only to face stretching speed and performance. This latest concept by NON-OBJECT called “nUCLEUS” throws out the current rule book and presents this “Square Against Air” electric motorcycle design. nUCLEUS boasts a thin comfortable saddle and horse-like behavior that lowers itself when idle and raises when in motion. The air defying side-view hides the fact that these pieces of metal are simply blades from the front. It would be curious to see how this machine proves itself in a wind tunnel and stability at high speeds.

Forest Fire “Clear Cut” Robot

Yep, this is exactly what you think it is. The forest fire prevention robot by Jordan Guelde is an advanced robot designed to clear large areas of foliage from around a forest fire to help stop the flames from spreading.
Traditional back burning would certainly be cheaper and possibly less lethal to surrounding wildlife, but complete with and array of hubless motors, and integrated fuel system of its back this robot is a hell of a lot cooler. Unfortunately this version is intended for entertainment design rather than the production line, but with the help of Governor Schwarzenegger maybe the production line is possible?
